The change, announced on 3 November 2026, affects installers participating in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which provides financial support towards the installation of eligible low-carbon heating systems.
Ofgem has been contacting registered BUS installers directly over recent weeks to prepare them for the switchover and is now asking industry organisations, including the Energy Efficiency Association, to help raise awareness.
What do installers need to do?
To access the updated BUS Installer Portal, installers must have:
- A GOV.UK One Login
- An approved BUS Installer Account
Importantly, both accounts must use the same email address.
Installers who already have a GOV.UK One Login for another government service can continue using it, provided it is registered to the same email address as their BUS Installer Account.
Those who do not yet have a GOV.UK One Login will need to create one.
The requirement applies to all registered users of a BUS Installer Account, not just the organisation's authorised representative.
Installers are therefore encouraged to check that everyone in their organisation who needs portal access has the appropriate login arrangements in place.

Ofgem is also encouraging organisations to channel enquiries through a single nominated contact wherever possible. This should help its support teams identify common issues and respond more efficiently.

The Energy Efficiency Association encourages all BUS-registered installers to ensure their account details are up to date and that relevant staff can access the new system.
Installers who have not yet accessed the updated portal should check their login arrangements now to avoid unnecessary difficulties when using the service.
